Eating Disorders and Disordered Eating: Finding Balance Through Mindful Eating100% SSL Secure
Presented by Caroline Baerten, MA, RD
For several decades the interventions for eating disorders, (AN, BED, BN), were dominated by a behavioral cognitive approach based on scientific studies using this angle. In the past ten years there has been a new wave in research: mindfulness and compassion-based interventions are receiving more attention. Along with this, mindful eating has become an effective tool for patients on the spectrum of restrictive eating and binge eating.
In this two-part webinar series, we will discuss and practice different mindfulness, mindful eating and compassion-based exercises which benefit people with eating disorders and those with unbalanced eating habits.
The participants will be able to list the different mindful eating, mindfulness and compassion-based meditations developed for individuals with eating disorders (AN, BN, BED) and describe their specific features.
• The attendees will be able to select the best practices for use in their specific professional context and according the patient profile on the spectrum of disturbed eating behavior.
• After practicing the mindful eating, mindfulness and compassion-based exercises in week 1, the attendees will be able to better embody different cognitive-affective mindfulness qualities which will benefit their patients with eating disorders.
• By assessing the treat-drive-caring system (based on research of Paul Gilbert, PhD), health professionals can demonstrate new compassion-based approaches for their clients and to calm down the treat-drive system.
