The Mindful Eating for the Treatment of Binge Eating Disorder webinar is a two-part foundations series aimed at professionals looking to increase their knowledge of binge eating disorder (BED) and apply mindfulness and mindful eating skills to the treatment of this disorder. Mindful eating provides an important framework for the treatment of BED in encouraging connection with the body, finding pleasure in food, and shifting from reliance on dieting to listening to the innate cues of our own body. Taught from a weight-inclusive Health At Every Size framework, we believe that weight stigma and dieting are key factors in the onset and maintenance of binge eating disorder and must be specific targets in treatment.

Part 1 of the webinar will teach participants the signs and symptoms of binge eating disorder and the role of weight stigma and dieting in the disorder. Clinical case examples will be used throughout to illustrate concepts. We will also review the research on the effectiveness of mindful eating interventions in BED treatment and explore the use of mindful eating interventions from a weight-inclusive perspective using clinical examples.

Part 2 of the webinar will center the voices of people in recovery from BED (many who are professionals themselves) and/or people who have first-hand experiences with weight stigma in a panel discussion to explore the topics of weight stigma, mindful eating, and treatment modalities from a new perspective. Participants will have the opportunity to ask panel members questions and receive feedback on clinical cases, should they wish to present clinical dilemmas or vignettes.
